But I will hold on hope
And I won't let you choke
On the noose around your neck
And I'll find strength in pain
And I will change my ways
I'll know my name as it's called again
I wanted to start off with some lyrics to show the power that Mumford puts into a dynamic array of words. This is the chorus from "The Cave." I was able to ramble about this one song for a whole paper dissecting each word for it's greater meaning. Let me tell you, it was easy. The ideas portrayed in the twelve songs of "Sigh No More," Mumford's debut album in the states, are eclectic and strong minded views of the band's ideals. They talk of heart ache from love, pain and suffering through painful experiences and many other themes you'd expect from a folk band, but they do in such a way that doesn't come right out and say it. They dance around the themes so delicately that it makes listening to them a challenge of the mind. Its like a reading a book that you need to discuss with others just to understand it fully. Their lyrics are conversation points, their musicianship is one of a kind, and frankly, they're too cool for you. So go check them out. Mumford & Sons FTW!
